Three dice are shaken in a sealed container. You bet on the outcome โ the total, specific numbers appearing, doubles, triples, or combinations. All bets resolve on that single roll. There are 216 possible outcomes (6ยณ), every one equally likely, and every probability in the game is a simple count of how many of those 216 satisfy your bet.
There is no skill, no decision after the bet, and no sequence to exploit. Sic Bo strategy is entirely about which box you put chips in โ nothing else exists.

The Specific Triple at 30.09% is the most expensive standard bet in any casino. It beats keno, it beats every slot machine, it beats every roulette variant. Paying 180:1 on a 1-in-216 event means the casino keeps roughly 30 cents of every dollar wagered on that box.
The Traps: Triples, Specific Doubles and Combinations
The pattern is consistent across the table: the more exciting the payout number looks, the wider the gap between it and true odds. This isn't a Sic Bo quirk โ it's how every casino prices long-shot bets โ but Sic Bo's spread is unusually extreme.
The one long-shot exception: the two-dice combination bet (any two specified different numbers, e.g. a 2 and a 5) pays 5:1 on 30 of 216 outcomes โ a 2.78% house edge, identical to Big/Small. It's the only "interesting" bet on the table that's priced fairly, and most players walk right past it.
Payouts Vary by Casino โ Check Before You Bet
Unlike roulette, where the wheel dictates the odds, Sic Bo pay tables differ meaningfully between operators. The same bet can carry a very different edge across two tables.

Big/Small and Odd/Even are the exception โ they pay 1:1 universally, so their 2.78% edge is fixed everywhere. That consistency is another reason to build a session around them.
The Complete Strategy
Played as Big/Small only, Sic Bo is a perfectly reasonable 2.78% game โ better than American roulette, comparable to a decent European wheel. Played the way the layout invites you to play it, sprinkling chips across triples and specific doubles, the effective edge climbs past 20%. It's the same table either way; the entire difference is which boxes you use.
